Stylos Column Floor Lamp

Designed by Italian architect Achille Castiglioni, this striking floor lamp has been a contemporary classic since 1984. A halogen bulb illuminates the base with a warm glow, while an incandescent emits additional diffused light from the top of the column. The silver-finished steel base is weighted to keep the luminous cylinder stable. Both the designer and the lamps manufacturer, Flos, are represented in MoMAs collection. Made in Italy.

Born in Milan in 1918, Achille Castiglioni is an internationally acknowledged master of Italian design. During his 52-year career, he designed and collaborated on nearly 150 design objects, from lamps to cameras to car seats. His work is known for combining simplicity with fun, along with close attention to how objects are used in real life. In 1997, MoMA launched the first individual retrospective of his work with the exhibition Achille Castiglioni: Design! Prior to that, his designs were featured in numerous exhibitions at the Museum, including The Modern Movement in Italy: Architecture and Design (1954) and Recent Acquisitions: Design (1967-8 and 1970-1). Castiglionis work has had a significant impact on the history of the applied arts and has taught generations about good design. Designed by Achille Castiglioni for FLOS.

Dual foot switch on the power cord operates the top and bottom light sources.
