Olympic Down Draft kilns can bebuilt of brick or fiber. The frame of the DownDraft is made of heavyangle iron and 1″ thick steel tubing. We’ve thickened both the brickand fiber insulation which is now backed with an 1″ airs pace createdby the square tubing between the stainless steel jacket and theinsulation. Four and one half inches of brick and 1″ ceramic fiberboardinsulate the brick Down Drafts, and three inches of fiber with 1″ceramic fiberboard insulate the fiber DownDrafts. We’ve added air spacewith the metal tubing to the doors of the fiber and brick DownDrafts toenhance the kiln’s strength and efficiency. Additionally, the air spaceresults in a cooler outer surface and a thicker kiln door. Fiber and brick DownDrafts are built with double insulated floors, consisting ofbrick and ceramic fiberboard. The additional strength and insulationenables the kiln to fire at high temperatures, and to maintaintemperatures without damage or deterioration. Efficient venturi burnersare used on the Down Draft kilns with an option for blower burners ifdesired.
