2024 Conservation Breed Fiber Bundle
We have selected four fabulous spinning fibers from the group of sheep breeds considered Conservation Breeds.
Polwarthfiber is a fine wool breed. After crossbreeding Merino and Lincoln sheep a new breed was established in 1880 in Australia. The new breed was called Polwarth and is 3/4 Merino and 1/4 Lincoln.
The wool produced by the Shetland has historically been a valuable commodity. Shetlands produce numerous shades of wool colorsand this variety was commercially important to the wool industry of the Shetland Isles, where natural wools are often used undyed.
Original developed out of the Romney Marsh of southeast England,Romneyproduce high-quality fleece, even in less than ideal conditions. A member of the Longwool family, Romney is finer than most other Longwools.
A hardy breed, Herwick live on the highest elevations of the Lake District in England. This is a coarse, hard wearing wool that is well suited for hand spinning.
